Dr. Kortne is originally from Fenton, MI, and currently resides in Seattle with her husband, Dr. Jack, and their two children. Year round, Dr. Kortne can be seen at parks with her children, spending time with friends and their kids, traveling to see family, and attempting new arts and crafts projects. In the winter, Dr. Kortne enjoys skiing, and when summer arrives, she will find any excuse to be outdoors.
Dr. Kortne Frederick Hou completed her undergraduate education at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, earning her Bachelor of Science degree in General Biology while working as a barista and skiing for the U of M ski team. Knowing from a young age of her desire to become a dentist, Dr. Kortne attended dental school at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, and graduated with her Doctorate of Dental Surgery. Her orthodontic training was completed at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis, TN, where she earned her Master of Dental Science and Orthodontic Certificate.
Dr. Kortne is active in several local study clubs where dentists and dental specialists get together to keep up to date with the latest trends in dentistry and orthodontics. She has presented locally at study clubs as well as at the national level at the American Association of Orthodontists annual meetings.
In addition to continuing her own education, Dr. Kortne also contributes to the education of future orthodontists. She is an affiliate assistant professor at the University of Washington, Department of Orthodontics where she teaches first-year orthodontic residents the fundamentals of wire bending. Dr. Kortne is also an instructor at the Charles H. Tweed International Orthodontic Foundation. There, she instructs orthodontists and orthodontic residents in a two-week continuing education course on techniques in orthodontic treatment planning and the fundamentals of wire bending.
